Arminia Bielefeld goalkeeper Stefan Ortega has agreed personal terms with Manchester City ahead of his summer transfer to the Etihad Stadium, 90min understands.

The 29-year-old has spent his entire career at Die Arminen either side of a three-year spell at 1860 Munich and is highly rated in his native Germany. While he has never been capped by the national side, he was on standby for their Euro 2020 squad last summer.

He is now finalising a move to City and looks set to become their newest understudy to Ederson, with USMNT goalkeeper Zack Steffen likely to leave on loan. Veteran stopper Scott Carson also penned an extension to his deal at the Etihad recently.

Ortega posted a farewell message to Arminia Bielefeld on his Instagram page on Monday evening.

"Thank you [Arminia Bielefeld]! It's time to say goodbye. I wanted to thank Arminia Bielefeld for an incredible 12 years. It was an indescribable journey in which I developed enormously both as a sport and as a person," Ortega said.

"We managed to get promoted to the Bundesliga, with a spectacular relegation the year after. I could always count on your support and will always be an Arminia fan. I wish the upcoming team and all fans only the best and maximum success. Stay healthy and thank you again for everything. See you soon!"

Ortega will become City's second incoming of the summer following the signing of Erling Haaland, who also arrived from the Bundesliga.
