Inter defender Stefan de Vrij is hoping to sign a three-year contract extension with his current club, whilst the Nerazzurri only want to offer a two-year deal.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the Dutchman is keen to stay at Inter, but that there is still some significant distance separating the parties in terms of the length of an extension as well as wages.

De Vrij is hoping not to earn any less than the €4.2 million net per season that he currently earns next summer.

In this sense, it would not be difficult for the 30-year-old to make the move to a club abroad and have his wage demands met, and he has already received some initial offers from teams in the Premier League for a free transfer next summer.

However, the former Feyenoord and Lazio defender is happy at Inter and in Milan, and would like to stay.

The club are keen to extend de Vrij’s deal, as he is considered a reliable option in defense, and if he is to leave then replacing him would require a significant investment.

However, Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta has a policy of not offering contracts of longer than two years to players over the age of thirty.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri are not currently inclined to offer the Dutchman more than €3.5 million net per season.

Therefore, there is still work that must be done between the parties before an agreement can be reached on a new deal.
