PSG started in a 4-3-3 formation with a formidable front three of Neymar, Messi and Mbappe.

The average positions of the PSG players were in their own half as they played deep and created opportunities on the break.

Manchester City started in a similar formation and had Raheem Sterling playing as their number nine.

Manchester City only made two changes in the second half as they replaced two of their attackers.

Manchester City dominated possession of the ball as they usually do and also created more chances throughout the game. They had a higher xG than PSG and attempted three times the shots that their opponents attempted.

PSG only attempted five shots on goal throughout the game but were very effective in front of goal and scored twice. Manchester City created chances by putting in crosses from both flanks but failed to find the breakthrough.

PSG only had three shots on target but had a high conversion rate as they were able to convert two of those three shots.Manchester City had seven shots on target but were denied by the opposition keeper as he pulled off some brilliant saves. They also hit the post twice from a very close range.The xT timeline indicates Manchester City dominated the game and created goal-scoring opportunities frequently. Their xG graph kept on increasing as the game went on because of the number of shots they attempted on target.

Achraf Hakimi attempted the most number of passes for PSG and made most passes to Ander Herrera.

Manchester City were patient in the build-up and passed around the ball more to find pockets of spaces in the PSG defence.

Kylian Mbappe used his pace against the Manchester City defenders and attempted the most number of crosses for his team. He also made the cross into the box which resulted in PSG’s first goal.

Manchester City made more passes to the wide forwards and attempted 28 crosses into the penalty area. Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez attempted most crosses for Manchester City.

Kylian Mbappe attempted 41 passes with a passing accuracy of 82.93% and had the highest xT. He attempted the cross which led to the first goal and also assisted Lionel Messi for their second of the game.

Kylian Mbappe had an overall high xT as he was able to create a threat on the opposition defence with his passes as well as the dribbles he attempted.

The xT creation zones indicate City were able to create a threat from both flanks. Joao Cancelo had the highest xT for Manchester City as he attempted the most number of smart passes into the final third.

Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez got into great positions at times to put the ball into the box by dribbling past the PSG defenders but failed to make the right pass.PSG lost more than half of the defensive duels they attempted while defending on the right flank.

Manchester City did not attempt many high crosses in the box which is why PSG did not attempt many aerial duels.

The PSG full-backs won all three of the loose ball duels they attempted.

Manchester City failed to win most of the defensive duels they attempted. Kyle Walker only won two of the 15 defensive duels he attempted.

Manchester City won almost 100% of the aerial duels they attempted.

Manchester City won only six of the 31 loose ball duels they attempted.

It was a much-needed win for Paris Saint-Germain as they failed to win their previous match and are now at the top of Group A. Manchester City are third in the group and will be facing Club Brugge in their next group stage clash.
