FC Porto defeat AC Milan to get their first win of the 2021-22 UEFA Champions League. The Italians have now lost three consecutive games and their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages are getting slimmer.

Porto maintained their formation throughout the game and made five changes in the second half.

Porto dominated the game in terms of possession as well as the number of attacking actions performed. They also had a higher xG than Milan and had 19 shots on the goal.

Porto had 19 attempts on goal but had a very low shot on target percentage. Only 10.53% of their shots were on target. Mehdi Taremi had the highest xG from the six shots that he attempted on the goal.

Porto had only two shots on target from their 19 attempts and failed to keep their shots on target. They attempted 11 shots from outside the box and the remaining eight were taken from inside the penalty area. They also hit the post with one of their efforts.AC Milan only had four shots on goal and managed only one shot on target. Three of their four attempts were taken a long way from goal which explains why they had such a low xG.

Mehdi Taremi had the highest xG but did not keep any of his shots on target. The xT timeline indicates that AC Milan did get into positions that imposed a threat on the Porto defence but failed to make the right move in those positions. Porto had a higher xG from the start of the game and it kept increasing with their efforts on goal.

Porto completed more passes than AC Milan and managed to keep the ball. Otavio attempted the most passes for Porto and also received the ball the most number of times.

AC Milan failed to complete the passes they attempted as they had 118 passes that they misplaced.

Porto kept the ball in the central and wider areas of the pitch and completed more passes in the same areas. They attempted six smart passes and Luis Diaz attempted most smart passes.

AC Milan saw more of the ball in their own half and struggles to get the ball in the opposition half. They did not attempt a single smart pass but did attempt 11 crosses into the penalty area.

Porto had the highest xT when they were attacking from the right as there are more xT creation zones on the right flank. Otavio was playing on the right flank for Porto and had the highest xT from his passes.

Otavio and Luis Diaz had the highest xT from their passes but they failed to make the right pass when they were in threatening positions. Mehdi Taremi had the highest xT from his dribbles.

AC Milan had more xT creation zones on the left flank and Rafael Leao had the highest xT from the 14 passes he attempted.

The AC Milan players had a low xT from their passes because they failed to make the right pass when they got into threatening positions. Rafael Leao had an overall high xT with the dribbles and passes that he attempted.

Uribe attempted a total of 13 defensive duels and lost only one.

Porto were able to win most of the aerial duels they attempted and won these aerial duels higher up the pitch. They only faced five aerial balls near their penalty area.

Porto presses the AC Milan players higher up the pitch and won back the ball most of the time. Sergio Oliveira had a 100% success rate in winning loose ball duels as he won all six duels that he attempted.AC Milan faced 87 defensive duels and won 60.9% of these duels.

AC Milan players won most of the defensive duels they attempted while defending. Simon Kjaer won five of the seven aerial duels he attempted.

Both teams had a decent success rate in winning loose ball duels but Porto managed to win more duels.

Porto still have their eye on the second spot of the group that will take them to the knockout stages of the tournament as they are level on points with Atletico. AC Milan will try to salvage points from the next three group stage games and still have a chance to qualify if they win the next three games.
