We’re nearly there, with Major League Soccer’s Decision Day to come on Sunday.
A relative calm before the end of regular season storm, but here’s the latest from this side of the pond…
Jonathan Osorio has been ruled out of Toronto’s season closer against Philadelphia Union on Sunday.
With the Reds missing out on the play-offs, there is a chance that the TFC legend has played his last game for the club and will not receive a richly-deserved send-off.
Should he leave for new pastures, the midfielder will depart having made a record 318 appearances for Toronto.
He was also a member of the side that secured an MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield double in 2017.
Quite the legacy.
It was reported on Thursday and Chicago Fire have since confirmed that midfielder Gastón Giménez has signed a new deal.
The renewal, which keeps the Argentina native at the club until 2025, has the added bonus of opening up a Designated Player spot for 2023.
And since the Paraguay international received his US Green Card earlier this year, he will no longer occupy an international roster slot.
The Fire’s opponents this weekend also had some contract news to share.
Djordje Petrović will stay between the posts for New England Revolution until 2025, with the option of a further year beyond that.
The Serbia international took over the first-team spot in June after Matt Turner’s transfer to Arsenal.
In 20 league games since, the 23-year-old has kept an impressive seven clean sheets.
If Austin head coach Josh Wolff could pick any game to be suspended for, Sunday’s date with Colorado Rapids would probably be it.
Los Verdes have little to play for having already wrapped up second spot in the Western Conference.
That said, with only two wins in their last eight games, Austin could arguably do with a win to boost confidence heading into the post season.
They’ll have to do so without Wolff’s supervision, though.
The 21-game unbeaten run of the USWNT may come to an end with a 2-1 friendly loss to England on Friday, but it was nevertheless a night to remember for Alyssa Thompson.
Replacing Megan Rapinoe seven minutes from time at Wembley, the 17-year-old became the youngest player to make her senior debut since Mallory Pugh in 2016.
And at 17 years and 334 days old, the high-school senior and Stanford commit became the 70th teenager to earn a cap for the Stars and Stripes.
The future is bright!
