A relatively quiet day as the MLS community draws breath after a hectic midweek schedule and braces before another busy weekend hits.

There does seem to be some transfer movement at Toronto and especially at DC United, and there was recognition for some of the midweek excellence.

Toronto set to seal Bernardeschi deal

This one has been in the works for a while, but it seems that Federico Bernardeschi will soon be officially on the books of Toronto soon.

The 28-year-old Italy international, who left Juventus on a free transfer this summer, is reportedly set to depart for Canada on Friday.

Rooney eyes old pals act at DC United

Due to work permit issues, Wayne Rooney is not allowed to assume full control at DC United yet.

However, the newly appointed head coach is working behind the scenes.

Near the top of of his to-do list, it seems, is the acquisition of Ravel Morrison on a Designated Player contract. The 29-year-old played for Rooney at Derby last season, and was at Manchester United for a couple of years when ‘Wazza’ was at the peak of his playing powers.

Another 29-year-old and another old team-mate of Rooney’s at Old Trafford, Jesse Lingard, is also reported to be on the agenda.

Like Morrison, Lingard is available on a free transfer and DC would seek to get him with Targeted Allocation Money.

Player of the Week

Teenager Jhon Durán gets the Player of the Week accolade for his matchwinning performance for Chicago Fire against Toronto on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old scored in the fourth and 16th minutes to set up a 2-0 victory and help the Fire leapfrog the Reds at the lower reaches of the Eastern Conference standings.

Team of the Week

Durán was also named in the Team of the Week for his exploits.

The Colombian forms a lethal front three with (fellow countryman) Cucho Hernández and Ronaldo Cisneros, who also notched braces for Columbus Crew and Atlanta United respectively.

USA WNT book place in Concacaf decider

The USA Women’s National Team did their best not to break sweat in over 100F degree weather in Mexico on Thursday.

A straightforward 3-0 win over Costa Rica saw them book their place in the final of the Concacaf W Championship.

Their opponents in Monterrey on Monday will be Canada after the Canucks overcame Jamaica in the other semi-final.

All that talk of Colombian strikers earlier reminded us of Juan Pablo Ángel’s time on these shores.

While he would go on to play for LA Galaxy and Chivas USA, his first port of call was with New York Red Bulls and their distinctive white and red strip in 2007.
