The third-division outfit, who are playing in their first-ever US Open Cup, have reached the quarter-finals after previously knocking off the Des Moines Menace (USL2), Chicago Fire, and Northern Colorado Hailstorm (USL1).

Union Omaha are the first third-division side to make the quarter-finals since Orlando City in 2013 as a member of USL Pro.

The Owls will face Sporting KC on either June 21st or 22nd at Children’s Mercy Park.

Sacramento Republic make history

And the Cupsets weren’t done there, with USL Championship outfit Sacramento Republic also booking their spot in the last eight with a 2-0 defeat of San Jose Earthquakes.

Check out this incredible angle of Rodrigo López’s 83rd-minute clincher.

Galaxy take the El Trafico bragging rights

Republic’s opponents in the quarter-finals will be LA Galaxy after they put rivals LAFC to the sword with a 3-1 victory at Dignity Health Sports Park.

Captain Chicharito netted the second goal of the game and celebrated in typically exuberant fashion.

Here’s how the quarter-finals are looking now …

Venezia ‘finalizing’ Jack de Vries signing

Jack de Vries is set to become the fourth American at Venezia, who have been relegated to Serie B after finishing 20th in the top flight this season.

Meanwhile, USMNT star Brenden Aaronson is undergoing a medical at Leeds United where he will link up with former Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch in a deal worth a reported $30m.

Vancouver Whitecaps survive Calvary FC in PKs

The Whitecaps survived a major scare in the Canadian Championship quarter-finals as they were taken to penalties by Canadian Premier League outfit Calvary FC.

Vancouver needed an 85th-minute own goal to equalise before winning the shootout 5-3.

Vancouver will face York United in the semi-finals on June 21st while CF Montréal will travel to Toronto FC in the other semi after Sunusi Ibrahim’s hat-trick gave them a 3-0 win over 2021 CPL finalists Forge FC.

👕 Throwback rack

In honor on Union Omaha’s historic Cupset, we bring you highlights from the last time a third-division side clinched a quarter-final place.

Orlando City, then playing in USL Pro, upset Sporting Kansas City 1-0, courtesy of a first-minute goal from Tan Long.
