Standard Liege have announced the signing of 24-year-old Australian international midfielder Aiden O’Neill from Melbourne City FC. The central midfielder has signed a four year deal with the club and becomes their second signing ahead of the 2023/2024 after Isaac Price.
O’Neill began his career in England with Burnley, spending most of his time on loan at clubs such as Fleetwood and Oldham. The midfielder then spent a few seasons on loan from Burnley in Australia with Perth Glory and Brisbane before joining Melbourne City for free in the summer of 2020. O’Neill only made five appearances for Burnley.
At Melbourne City, the midfielder has made 62 appearances, scoring four goals and providing six assists. All four of his goals came during the 2022/2023 A League season. He has also been capped twice by the Australian national team.
O’Neill becomes the second Melbourne City player to move to Belgium after Jordan Bos joined Westerlo.
