Het Nieuwsblad are reporting a surprising transfer for Standard Liege. In July, Norwegian winger Aron Dønnum was made club captain, having come back from a disappointing first season in Belgium to be a key player during the 2022/2023 season. However, despite being given the armband, the 25-year-old is now set to leave Belgium to join Toulouse. Given that the fee is reportedly around €4.5m, with the potential to rise to €6.5m due to bonuses, it is of little surprise that the club has accepted the offer.
Dønnum joined Standard from Oslo based Vålerenga for €1.5m back in the summer of 2021. However, he was sent back on loan to the Norwegian side in March 2022 after struggling to perform in Belgium. Upon his return, he became a regular under then head coach Rony Deila, now at Club Brugge. The Norwegian international will leave Standard having played 74 games, scoring six goals and providing 12 assists.
Standard are yet to win this season, one of five teams that are currently without one in the Pro League.
