Het Nieuwsblad, amongst others, are reporting that Standard Liege’s owners 777 are looking for €200m from investors to help help them add a Premier League side to their current portfolio. The group own the likes of Genoa, Sevilla and Hertha Berlin alongside Standard. They were said to be interested in acquiring Everton earlier this year, but were unable to strike a deal to acquire the club.
While this may help Standard in the long run, their fans will be anxious to see how 777’s current investment plan will help return them to being a competitive force within Belgian football. They did manage to make play-off two, despite little investment last summer.
However, the mastermind behind the relative success of the 2022/2023 campaign, Ronny Deila, has moved to Club Brugge. In his place has come former Club Brugge head coach Carl Hoefkens. After a slow start to the summer, they have begun to add a few players to a squad that needs an influx of quality. Hayao Kawabe recently swapped Wolves for Liege.
