As reported by the Glasgow Times, Standard Liege have rejected Rangers second bid for their young midfielder Nicolas Raskin. Despite Raskin having already passed a medical and agreed terms with the Scottish side, an agreement on a transfer fee seems to be some way off. An initial offer of €500,000 was rejected, as Standard are looking to get at least seven figures for the midfielder.

However, Rangers are unlikely to want to stump up too much cash now, given that they could just sign Raskin on a free in the summer. Standard did just agree a €2m fee for Selim Amallah with Real Valladolid, despite the playing also being out of contract in the summer, which may give an indication as to why they are willing to play hardball in negotiations with Rangers.

The central midfielder was dropped from the Standard first team after contract negotiations stalled, with the player’s current deal up at the end of this season. Prior to being dismissed from the first team, Raskin played 17 games this season for Standard, scoring once and providing four assists.
