St Louis continues their brilliant start to life in MLS, breaking a record with a 3-0 victory of the San Jose Earthquakes.

Their latest triumph not only saw them keep the top spot in the Western Conference, but also saw them make MLS history by becoming the first team expansion team to win their first four games. Though it is a surprise for many, head coach Bradley Carnell never bought into that, believing in the process and trusting his players.

"Is it a surprise for us? No. The boys were confident from day one. The boys were angry from day one, that no one believed in them. So yeah, we've got the chip on the shoulder, we had the chip on the shoulder. But now we've shown that it's not just about having a chip on the shoulder."

Carnell continued, "We can compete... we can dominate, we can take control and we can execute."

It’s imperative to note that St. Louis got to where they are now due to smart scouting, good coaching, and a firm foundation that was set years before the team even took the field. One of the players found from that intricate scouting network is forward Joao Klauss.

Goals from the Brazilian, alongside US international Nicholas Gioacchini and Tomas Ostrack, sealed three points for St. Louis to see them top the Western Conference. Klauss has burst on the scene in MLS, spearheading a fierce St. Louis attack that saw him pick up his third goal in four matches.

"He's just a winner by trait. He drives us all. His toolbox is massive. He has so many different things he can provide, different weapons."

While winning is nice, and the temptation to call out the doubters looms over their heads, Carnell says the team doesn’t want to get ahead of themselves.

"We just now have to stay grounded. I don't doubt this group for one single day that we don't remain humble, that we don't remain eager to learn and to commit. I just want to keep this going. Right now the motto is, 'Comfortable, but never satisfied."

St. Louis will look to continue their historic run in MLS this weekend as they take on Western Conference rivals Real Salt Lake.
