L’Équipe report that Ligue 2 strugglers St Étienne are in advanced talks with Ligue 1 outfit FC Lorient to sign Les Merlus’ 3rd choice goalkeeper, Matthieu Dreyer.
ASSE’s current #1, 22-year-old shot-stopper Étienne Green, was sent off on Saturday during a 6-0 defeat to Le Havre. To deal with his likely multi-match suspension, Les Verts have decided to try to move fast and find a goalkeeper who can play next weekend at Valenciennes.
Their focus is on 33-year-old goalkeeper Matthieu Dreyer, who is currently 3rd choice at Ligue 1 club FC Lorient and wants to make the transfer happen. FCL are willing to allow the player to leave on a free transfer so that ASSE can pick him up without paying a transfer fee.
The idea is to conclude this deal early next week, which will see Dreyer sign a 2-year contract should he pass his medical with Les Verts, and then install himself as the back-up to Étienne Green when the youngster returns from suspension.
