Atlético, and Griezmann, are of course fresh off a memorable evening’s work on the continent.

A goal down owing to a first leg defeat at the hands of Serie A leaders Inter, Diego Simeone’s troops welcomed the Nerazzurri to the Wanda Metropolitano, eyeing a spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

And, when all was said and done, this is precisely what Atlético marched on to.

This came after Federico Dimarco’s first-half opener was swiftly cancelled out by the aforementioned Griezmann, before a late Memphis Depay strike sent proceedings to extra-time, and an ensuing penalty shootout.

And, when all was said and done, it was the evening’s hosts who held their nerve from 12 yards, goalkeeper Jan Oblak proving himself the hero with a pair of saves.

Amongst those to have fluffed their lines from the spot for the eventually defeated Inter was frontman Alexis Sánchez.

Introduced late in the action in Madrid, Sánchez was responsible for a dismal effort, which was kept out with ease by Atléti shot-stopper Oblak.

And one member of Diego Simeone’s squad who appeared to garner particular enjoyment from the former Arsenal and Barcelona man’s miss, was Antoine Griezmann.

Caught by the Movistar cameras inside the Metropolitano, France international Griezmann was spotted seeking out teammate Rodrigo De Paul, before shouting:

“Cagón! Es un cagón el chileno!”, translating roughly as ‘S**t! The Chilean is a s**t!”
