Squad rotation will be key for Inter Milan if they’re to fend of Napoli challenging for their Serie A title this season.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
This season, Inter find themselves in a real dogfight to retain the Serie A title.
The first few weeks of the season have made it clear that the Nerazzurri are not simply going to cruise to the Scudetto as they did last time out.
Inter currently sit fourth in the table on eleven points. City rivals AC Milan are on the same number of points.
Meanwhile, Juventus are one point ahead of the Milan clubs.
And lastly, at the top of the table are Napoli. The Partenopei have recovered from a disastrous start to the campaign, a 0-3 loss to Hellas Verona, and have taken thirteen points so far.
Barring their big early stumble against Verona, Napoli’s great virtue has been relentless consistency.
Antonio Conte’s team have won all the matches they’ve been expected to. And they have done so in a businesslike manner.
Meanwhile, Napoli secured a point against Juventus in a very cagey match in Turin.
All of this has marked out the Partenopei as genuine title contenders this season.
Moreover, there is the fact that Napoli don’t have any European football to worry about.
That has frequently been a factor that has favoured Conte. With Inter, with Chelsea, and with Juventus, Conte’s teams have often gone on their strongest runs when they’ve had all week to work and prepare.
Inter, on the other hand, don’t have that luxury. Nor do Milan or Juventus.
The extra matches that come from playing in the Champions League place a lot of strain on Inter’s squad.
But the Nerazzurri have been looking for the right balance in terms of rotating their squad.
And that could be the decisive factor in staying fresh in a prospective title race with Napoli.
