Tottenham Hotspur head coach Rehanne Skinner says that her side are improving their performances but they must also now target positive results.

The Lilywhites have failed to pick up a single point in the Barclays Women’s Super League since they won 8-0 at Brighton & Hove Albion on 30 October. Spurs have also only scored one goal during their losing league run.

Helped by the January arrivals of Beth England and Mana Iwabuchi, Spurs’ performances have improved in recent weeks. Head coach Skinner says that the emphasis is now on turning good performances into points.

“The thing for us is that our performances are improving since the start of the new year, that’s the thing that we’re focused on a lot,” Skinner said when speaking ahead of this afternoon’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at home to Chelsea.

“Despite the scoreline in the last game (against Chelsea) in the Conti Cup, I thought that we played really well for large chunks of the game. We were more capable in possession, more creative with what we were trying to do and I think we exploited gaps when we needed to. There were definitely areas where as a collective, we were much better and obviously, we made ourselves really difficult to break down. There were a couple of instances where we switched off and you can’t do that against a good team like that.

“Things are evolving in our team, positively and collectively. It is just going to take a bit more time but we’ve got nothing to lose. We want to try to improve results not just performances so going into it, we want to give it everything we possibly can and see if we can turn around not getting points against these kinds of teams.”

Following their poor run, Spurs are now six points above the relegation zone. Skinner said that the club are not looking at the table, they are just focusing on the next game.

She said “We are just focusing on every game as it comes. We weren’t getting carried away when we were occupying a Champions League spot neither, it is just part of the process. It is a marathon not a sprint, every game matters and the one in front of you is the most important one, that’s all we are concerned about right now.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Chelsea kicks-off at 12.30pm. Tickets will be available to purchase at The Breyer Group Stadium this afternoon.
