Spurs to open 2022/23 WSL season against Man Utd at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium | OneFootball

Tottenham will open the 2022/23 WSL season by hosting Manchester United at in a blockbuster fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 10 September.

Spurs Women have relocated from The Hive in north west London to Brisbane Road in the east of the capital for this campaign, but will start off in the club’s 62,000-capacity headline stadium.

Spurs opened and closed the 2021/22 WSL season at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, enjoying wins over Birmingham and Leicester respectively.

This will be the club’s first game following a hugely successful Euro 2022 that has recaptured the imagination of the nation when it comes to women’s football.

The WSL saw a spike in attendances after the 2019 World Cup over the first half of the 2019/20 club season. During that time, Spurs hosted Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in front of more than 38,000 fans, among a number of matches across the league with high attendances.

Unfortunately, the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the cancelled season and games played behind closed doors for most of the following year halted the positive momentum. By the 2021/22 season, attendances in re-opened stadiums hadn’t really recovered, with Spurs only welcoming fewer than 9,000 fans across both of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium games.

On the pitch, 2022/23 is another opportunity for Spurs to grow. The club enjoyed its best ever WSL finish and points tally last season, with Rehanne Skinner’s team even in the hunt for the Champions League for around two thirds of the campaign until falling away in the final stretch.

If they are to be in contention for Champions League places, they will be competing with Manchester United, as well as the league’s big three – Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City.

Drew Spence, Ellie Brazil and Ramona Petzelberger have strengthened the squad after arriving from WSL clubs, while Amy Turner has returned to England following her spell at Orlando Pride.
