Spurs stars top surprising list of Europe's best performing players | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur duo Christian Eriksen and Hugo Lloris are currently the best players in their respective positions in Europe.

At least, that’s according to data provided by the CIES Football Observatory, who have posted their rankings of the highest performers over the last three months from Europe’s top five leagues, based on six different criteria: rigour, recovery, distribution, take on, chance creation and shooting.

Arguably the most surprisingly ranked player is Lloris who, with his score of 84.1 points, finished number one in the goalkeeper stakes ahead of the likes of Roma’s Alisson (83.8), Paris Saint-Germain’s Alphonse Areola (83.7) and Manchester City’s Ederson (83.3).

Eriksen also topped his category – known as “box-to-box midfielders” – with 89.9 points, which just gave him the edge over Napoli’s Marek Hamšík (89.5), Manchester City’s İlkay Gündoğan (86.9) and PSG’s Julian Draxler (86.1).

Spurs players scored highly elsewhere, too. Davinson Sánchez (88.5) finished second in the centre backs category with only Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly (90.4) scoring higher, while Mousa Dembélé (89.0) was beaten only by Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos (92.8) where defensive midfielders are concerned.

Harry Kane (87.1) was third in the forward rankings, Son Heung-min (87.1) was the fourth best winger and Ben Davies (84.0) was the fifth best full back.

The rankings cover the period from 26 December 2017 to 26 March 2018, during which time Mauricio Pochettino’s side have gone unbeaten in the Premier League, taking 27 points from a possible 33.
