Son Heung-Min has claimed ‘fatigue is just an excuse’ as he returns to Tottenham this week after a hectic month and end to a frantic summer.

The South Korea forward has played eight games in just 26 days, having also represented his nation at the World Cup in Russia; he played in the Asian Games, in which victory over Japan saw him avoid national service, as well as representing Spurs during their tour of the States.

If that wasn’t enough, he also played in Tottenham’s opening day win at Newcastle with his last match taking place on Tuesday in a 0-0 draw with Chile.

Racking up more than 50,000 air miles since the end of last season, the man is a machine and is ready to keep going as Spurs prepare for the visit of Liverpool at Wembley.

“I think this summer has been like any other summer, except that I’ve had to travel a little more,” Son told reporters facing Chile.

“I always tend to play a lot [in summers]. And I am not the only one playing many minutes. Fatigue is an excuse.”

With little rest, he is raring to go as Tottenham prepare to play five more games in September including a Champions League trip to Italy to take on Inter and he believes he has grown more knowledgable for his summer experiences.

“This is just the beginning,” he said. “I miss my team. I am happy to be back playing in the Premier League and Champions League. Over the summer, I think I’ve learned a great deal about football.”
