In the EFL, amidst the chaos of all the FA Cup action, there were some games in all three divisions, including for Tottenham Hotspur loanees. Let’s take a look at how they got on.
To begin, Will Lankshear and his new West Bromwich Albion side were in action at home to Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship. For his first game, the young striker was named on the bench by manager Tony Mowbray.
Midway through the second half, Lankshear came on for his debut, with the game still 0-0. Seven minutes later, fellow new signing Adam Armstrong gave the Baggies the lead.
After three minutes of stoppage time, Wednesday equalised to inflict heartbreak on West Brom. However, in the sixth minute of stoppages, Mowbray’s side managed to score a second from a corner, and secure a massive win in dramatic circumstances.
This win leaves Lankshear’s new side in 5th place in the Championship, with 57 points from their 31 games to date. Next up is a home game against 6th place Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night, for a 20:00 GMT kick off.
In League Two, George Abbott and his Notts County side hosted lowly Morecambe. As always, the young Spurs midfielder was named in the starting XI by manager Stuart Maynard.
After a dull first half without any goals, that also saw Abbott pick up a booking at the end of it, the game finally opened up for Notts in the second half. After 66 minutes, they took the lead, and after 74 minutes they doubled their advantage. That would be enough for a professional 2-0 victory, as they edge closer towards promotion.
This win takes them up to 2nd place in the League Two table. With top of the table Walsall having picked up one point from their previous four outings, Abbott’s side are now only six points off the top of the league, with 53 points from their 29 games.
Although not at his absolute best, another 90 minutes under his belt for Abbott, who had a disciplined second half performance on a yellow card. Next up is an away game against sixth placed Port Vale on Thursday evening, at 20:00 GMT.
Finally, Matthew Craig was again not in the Mansfield Town match day squad on Friday evening, with the Stags losing 1-0 at home to Northampton Town in his absence. Let’s hope he is there to play against his fellow loanees when they face Leyton Orient away from home on Tuesday evening.
