Spurs are reportedly leading the race for talented Southampton winger Tyler Dibling
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly leading the race for Southampton winger Tyler Dibling, who appears poised to depart in the coming months as the Saints head back to the Championship.
Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League was officially confirmed by last Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at Spurs, in which Dibling featured.
The 19-year-old has, largely, been a bright light in a historically dismal campaign at St Mary’s.
Southampton have already recorded the swiftest relegation in Premier League history, with their fate mathematically sealed with seven matches to spare, and a return of just two victories and ten points means they could still break Derby County’s record-low points tally of 11.
They are also currently without a permanent manager, with Simon Rusk taking charge on an interim basis until the end of the season after Ivan Juric departed in the wake of the side’s relegation.
However, Southampton can still expect interest in some of their players as they prepare for a swift return to the second-tier.
According to a fresh report from GIVEMESPORT, Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs are currently leading the race for Dibling’s much-sought-after signature.
Spurs’ admiration of Dibling is no secret, and their rejected bid of £35 million was widely reported back in January. Now, Spurs’ interest seemingly hasn’t waned one bit as they look to beat off competition from a host of rival clubs to the talented Southampton attacker.
The likes of Newcastle United, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Bundesliga side RB Leipzig have all been linked to Dibling, too.
Southampton sent shockwaves when it was revealed that they had set a staggering price tag of £100 million for the academy graduate.
However, GIVEMESPORT’s report states that demand was a “statement” to interested clubs that they are not intent on selling Dibling, and that Spurs believe the demand could eventually be more than halved to a fee between £40 million and £45 million.
Southampton have every right to demand a significant fee for Dibling, though. The teenage prodigy has been a bright spark in the top-flight this season, registering two goals and two assists apiece and offering an exciting threat with his creativity and ball-carrying quality in transition.
