Spurs into Adobe Women’s FA Cup semi-finals on penalties | OneFootball

Spurs knocked Manchester City out of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup on penalties, Chelsea had to work hard for their 1-0 win at Everton.

Manchester City were ahead within six minutes against Spurs, Mary Fowler in a quick exchange of passes with Khadija Shaw before her deflected effort looped in over Becky Spencer.

Shaw headed a great chance over the bar in the second half, Beth England hooked the ball over the bar at the other end.

Deep into added time, Amy James-Turner’s ball over the top saw Khiara Keating rush out but fail to clear, with England left to slot into an empty net.

With no further goals in extra time, it was down to penalties and Becky Spencer saved City’s first two taken by Alex Greenwood and Chloe Kelly.

Keating then saved Rosella Ayane’s spot-kick, Fowler converted to keep Man City in it but James-Turner netted the decider at 4-3 for Tottenham.

Nathalie Bjorn headed against the Everton bar early on but soon went off injured. Katherine Kuhl had an effort turned round the post by Chelsea goalkeeper Zecira Musovic.

The hosts had penalty appeals waived away when Heather Payne went down following a collision with Sophie Ingle. Jelena Cankovic had a great chance for the visitors following a cross by Johanna Rytting Kaneryd but she could not curl her shot the right side of the far post.

Erin Cuthbert fired straight at keeper Courtney Brosnan after Fran Kirby led a counter attack, Elise Stenevik’s free kick was tipped onto the bar by Musovic.

Emma Hayes made a triple substitution after the hour mark and Catarina Macario took little time to break the deadlock, having been set up by Aggie Beever-Jones.

Everton’s Katja Snoeijs was desperately close to turning in a Rikke Madsen cross, but Chelsea held onto their lead to go through.
