It is not the first time Spurs have shown interest, was reported at the end of last season that the club held an interest in Hudson-Odoi, although of course, nothing came of it. The winger has been a big part of a Forest side that currently sit third in the league, being the surprise package of the Premier League season so far.
Whilst his numbers don’t jump out as anything out of the order, his general performances have been really good so far. He is averaging 1.6 dribbles per game, 3.3 duels won per game, 1.8 chances created per game, and has created two big chances to go along with his two goals.
As well as the 3.3 duels won per game, Hudson-Odoi is also averaging over two ball recoveries per game, suggesting he has the tenacity and ability to press high that would suit an Ange Postecoglu system.
In terms of intangibles, he has just turned 24, and is at a time of his career where he is very experienced, but also most certainly has his best years ahead of him. He is also a homegrown player, which is never not useful to be able to add to your first team squad.
The one main issue with Hudson-Odoi is that whilst he can play on both sides, he does mainly operate from the left hand side, which with Heung-Min Son, Wilson Odobert, and Mikey Moore, is less of a need than the right hand-side, which really just has Brennan Johnson at the moment, although Odobert also has played games there.
In fairness, so has Hudson-Odoi, but the way he plays is just more suited to the left hand side. He loves to cut inside onto his right foot, and get a shot off or thread through a pass. This part of his game becomes limited if and when he plays on the right hand side. That said, a right footed right-winger does suit the way Ange uses his wingers, as we have seen with Johnson so far this campaign.
An interesting point to make is that he has only 18 months left on his Forest contract, and if he doesn’t show signs of extending, that could be something that Spurs look to exploit. Certainly one to keep an eye on, you would have to feel.
