Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has provided a fresh update on the fitness of Dejan Kulusevski, reiterating that the injury suffered by the Swede does not look serious.
Kulusevski was forced off during Tottenham’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday, adding to Postecoglou’s injury worries ahead of the Europa League final against Manchester United next week.
Spurs are also without fellow midfielders Lucas Bergvall and James Maddison for the final through injury, but Postecoglou is hopeful that Kulusevski will be able to play a part, despite missing training on Monday.
“He was a bit sore with his knee this morning,” Postecoglou responded when asked how Kulusevski was doing. “It looks like a knock at this stage. We’re going to let it settle for 24 hours and then assess it, but the initial thing is it looks like a knock than anything more serious.” Spurs have been decimated by injuries this season and Postecoglou opted to rest several key players for Sunday’s defeat – such as Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson. Speaking after another Spurs’ defeat about Kulusevski’s injury, Postecoglou stressed the importance of protecting players ahead of the final, and after playing on an artificial surface in Bodo. He said: “The last time we played on an artificial with Tamworth, the game after we got two calf injuries out of it. Guys like Brennan, maybe Richy (Richarlison) and Madders, so we were never going to risk those guys today.” Spurs have been boosted by the return of Heung-min Son from a foot injury, however, with the South Korean returning to action off the bench against Palace. “From a physical stand point, he’s good,” Postecoglou said. “It was important he got some minutes yesterday against Crystal Palace because he needed them, more for himself physiologically. “He had a good session today and he was never going to do the whole session because he played yesterday. He feels good and we’ve still got eight or nine days to go, plus a game on Friday where we can build him up. “It’s great to have him available. He’s been a big catalyst this year and a big driver.”
