Tottenham are in advanced talks with Paulo Fonseca over their vacant managerial role as the club close in on the appointment of a new manager.

The north London side have been assessing their options since the sacking of Jose Mourinho in April, with Ryan Mason having been placed in interim charge during the Premier League run-in.

Spurs have seen moves for a whole host of targets fail to materialise with Julian Nagelsmann deciding on a move to Bayern Munich next season, whilst there was also interest in Mauricio Pochettino returning from Paris Saint-Germain, only for the French side to refuse to entertain their interest.

Antonio Conte also held detailed talks with the north Londoners after leaving Inter Milan, though reservations on both sides saw a deal break down last week.

Spurs‘ search for a successor now appears to be reaching its conclusion though with the club in advanced negotiations with former Roma boss Fonseca, who is understood to have been recommended by new director of football, Fabio Paratici.

The Guardian are reporting that Fonseca is open to a move to the Premier League after leaving Roma, where he spent two seasons after joining the Italians from Shakhtar Donetsk.

During his time in Ukraine, he won three consecutive domestic doubles and has previously had spells at Braga and Porto in Portugal.
