Strugglers West Ham came into the game looking to drag themselves out of the bottom-two in the Women’s Super League, but they did not get the start they were looking for.

Spurs found their way in front inside 10 minutes when Grace Clinton fired the visitors into the lead.

The Hammers responded well however, reclaiming parity through Risa Shimizu, but the stalemate would not last long.

Robert Vilahamn’s side restored their lead just eight minutes later when Celin Bizet Ildhusøy popped up from the wing score for the away side.

Grace Clinton got her name on the scoresheet once again before the hour mark, doubling Spurs’ lead.

West Ham came storming back however, striking twice in eight minutes to draw level once again, but Spurs did not take the turnaround lightly.

The visitors reclaimed their lead thanks to a Jessica Naz strike, which would ultimately finish off the Hammers, who themselves put in a gutsy performance all night.

Shaw sends City back into second

Scorers: Bonner OG 19′, Shaw 32′, 45+7′, 56′, Kelly (PEN) 78′; Hinds 15′

Bunny Shaw hit a hat-trick as Manchester City came from behind to defeat Liverpool 5-1 and close the gap at the top of the table.

They went a goal down on 17 minutes as Reds skipper Taylor Hinds took advantage of a mix-up at the back to lob home delicately, although it was a lead that lasted just four minutes.

An own goal from Gemma Bonner levelled things up before Shaw took control of the contest.

She first won possession on the edge of the area and then kept a cool head to slot home to put City in front and she headed them further clear deep into first half injury-time by steering Chloe Kelly’s cross into the corner with her head, despite Teegan Micah’s best efforts.

They added a fourth after half-time as Shaw joined Lauren James in claiming a Sunday WSL hat-trick by brilliantly backheeling home when forced to move away from goal.

Kelly finished with a late flourish, adding a fifth from the penalty spot. City’s victory moves them back up to second place in the table, level on points with Arsenal and three points off leaders Chelsea.

Terland breaks City hearts at the death

Scorers: Terland 31′, 90+6”; Robinson 57′; Harrison 55′, Jones 83′

Elisabeth Terland broke Bristol City’s hearts as she netted a 96th minute winner to keep them rooted to the foot of the table and move

A late equaliser saw Bristol City move off the foot of the table as they left Brighton with a point following a 2-2 draw on Sunday.

They took the lead through Terland shortly after the half-hour point in play when she did at all herself by winning the ball back 25 yards from goal before advancing to pick out the corner.

Abi Harrison fired into the roof of the net to equalise 10 minutes after half-time but an instant response from Katie Robinson put Albion back in front as she slipped into the corner.

Carrie Jones appeared to have rescued a late point from close range when she lashed home following a penalty box melée, only for Terland to win it deep into injury-time and move her side up to eighth.

Hat-trick hero James sends Chelsea clear

Scorers: James 5′, 23′, 86′; Ladd 43′

Chelsea re-established their three-point lead at the top of the WSL table as Lauren James single-handedly inspired them to a 3-1 victory over Manchester United.

The England ace got things started at Stamford Bridge with just five minutes on the clock when she was slipped in on the right of the area and picked out the far corner with an instinctive outside-of-the-boot finish.

Midway through the half, she had her second of the game, finishing brilliantly on the bounce after racing in on goal before United pulled one back shortly before the break to set up a big second half – Hayley Ladd reacting fastest in the box following a block.

The Blues finally put the contest beyond doubt with four minutes left on the clock as James claimed the match ball by effortlessly steering in with her left foot this time after again being sent scampering through.

The result means Emma Hayes’ side extend their lead over Arsenal in second to three points, with United four points outside the top three.
