Spurs considering Ajax and Netherlands striker this month

Article image:Spurs considering Ajax and Netherlands striker this month

So far this month, Tottenham Hotspur have been linked to, well, just about every player under the sun. Yet, 24 days in - and they have made no outfield signings, just goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. This is despite clear, consistent cries for help from Ange Postecoglu and the entirety of the fanbase.

The latest on a long list of names to be mentioned this month, is, Ajax and Dutch national team striker Brian Brobbey. That is according to reliable ITK insider Paul O Keefe, whom said on his Twitter account earlier this afternoon. "Tottenham are considering an approach to sign Brian Brobbey from Ajax and have investigated the possbility through third parties."

Well, that's handy. With under two weeks of the transfer window remaining, Spurs are "considering an approach" for a player. Not even approaching never mind trying to get something done. Just "considering" an approach. With this sort of intensity it really is hard to believe that zero outfield signings have been made.

Nevertheless, let's see. As for Brobbey himself, he has been seen as a striker with potential, breaking through into the Ajax first team at a young age, but has often flattered to deceive. He has not scored a goal in any competition since November.

This season in the Eredivise, he has scored one goal in 746 minutes of action, and has often lost his place in the starting XI. Last season his numbers were a lot better, scoring 18 goals in 2416 league minutes, as well as providing eight assists, averaging nearly a goal or assist every game (30 games, 29 starts).

The season before, he scored 13 league goals in 1647 minutes, which was actually a goal every 127 mins compared to 134 the season after. His best return ratio wise was in the 21/22 season, scoring seven goals in just 403 minutes of action.

Mind you, that was after returning just six months after leaving for RB Leipzig, where he only started one game in half a season, which could be a bit of a red flag in itself. In terms of goals in the Eredivise, it is fair to suggest that this season is the outlier, but it is still a concern - particularly with the quality of the league. Surely Santiago Gimenez
