The Lilywhites take on Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup at the Gaughan Group Stadium this afternoon.
Manchester City have won 12 of their last 13 matches in all competitions. Vilahamn holds huge respect for The Cityzens but believes that his own side can negotiate their way through their latest fixture.
“They won 7-0 and they continued winning until the other night,” Vilahamn said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “They look very good when they play, they’re strong with their defensive game, they know how to attack, they know their jobs very well and they’re good at what they do. I would say that they’re the best team in the league but you always have Chelsea who win games as well. Those two teams are really good then there’s Arsenal who have a strong squad.
“Manchester City are a tough opponent but I also feel like there are ways that you can beat them. You need to be at your very best and you need to make sure that you have everything on your side. Hopefully, we have that this weekend.”
Spurs have faced Manchester City twice in 2024 already and Vilahamn believes that both sides have learned plenty about each other from their previous meetings.
He said “You learn every time you play against someone; you learn how we work and how they work. When you are a new coach with new players, you are learning a lot of new phases of the game, structures, set-pieces. Every game you play, you can get more information on how you can improve.
“I think we have a lot of information on how they play because they play pretty much the same every game and play very well, so you can analyse them in a good way. However, they are so good, so it doesn’t really matter in the other games.
“I think we can find ways where we can push it a bit more and you can see that we’ve developed, so we can also perhaps find ways in our game of how we can be sharper, better.
“In the game against Arsenal, we were much better in possession than in some of the other games. If we find ways there, we know we can hurt them. On the other hand, they know how we play and they get to know us more in every game, so it’s hard to tell who knows the most. We have a good picture of how we can beat them though.”
Tottenham Hotspur’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup quarter-final tie against Manchester City kicks-off at 3pm this afternoon. Tickets will be available to purchase ahead of kick-off at the Gaughan Group Stadium.
