Odense Boldklub sporting director Troels Bech has revealed there have been “dialogues” over the possibility of Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen sealing a return to the club in the summer.
Eriksen is all but guaranteed to leave United when his contract expires in June, with there being no expectation that the Red Devils will offer him a deal to extend his stay.
In his first season at Old Trafford, Eriksen played a crucial role, notching two goals and 10 assists in 44 appearances to help his side win the Carabao Cup and secure a Champions League finish.
His second campaign at United was marred by injuries, which limited him to just one goal and three assists as the club finished eighth in the Premier League.
So far this term, Eriksen has played just 21 times across all competitions and has managed four goals and as many assists across all competitions.
The 33-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements under Ruben Amorim and as such, will begin looking at his options as he considers the next step of his career.
The Dane played for both Middelfart Boldklub and Odense Boldklub in the early stages of his career before eventually joining Ajax, where he truly announced himself.
OB sporting director Troels Bech spoke to TV2 Sport and admitted that while he would love to bring Eriksen back to Odense Stadium, there is very little chance of that happening.
He said about a potential move, “If you’re hoping to stand and break something about Christian Eriksen and OB right now, it’s both out of my hands and maybe a little ambitious…”
“He is of course a dear friend of the club, and we have just held the Christian Eriksen Cup with his great approval, and he is therefore also a player who means more than just a shirt number and 90 minutes for OB.”
Asked whether there are ongoing talks with Eriksen, Bech answered, “There are dialogues. Most recently, he has also helped us with both video and other things for the Christian Eriksen Cup.”
“But it is not my privilege to stand and talk about contract talks. That is not the dialogue we are having with Christian Eriksen right now.”
