Sporting have been crowned Portuguese champions after a 2-0 win at home to Vitória SC.

The Lions went into this game knowing all they had to do was match whatever result Benfica could manage against Vitória's Minho rivals, Braga.

Rui Borges' side took the lead early into the second half when Maxi Araújo found Pedro Gonçalves and the playmaker then opened his body to sidefoot the ball into the net off the post.

With Benfica failing to beat Braga – a game which ended up finishing 1-1 – the title was essentially sealed in the 83rd minute, almost inevitably through Viktor Gyökeres who showed his strength and balance before rounding goalkeeper Bruno Varela and sealing the win.

That result is Sporting's second title in a row and one that came even with several long-term injuries and the departure of Ruben Amorim.
