PREVIOUS MEETING

Our last trip to Portugal to face Sporting was in the first leg of our Round of 16 encounter in February 2022, where Bernardo Silva’s brace, added to by goals from Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling, secured a stellar 5-0 victory.

The return leg the following month ended 0-0, helping us progress into the quarter-finals with a 5-0 aggregate victory.

LAST TIME OUT

Matchday Three of the league phase saw City claim a convincing 5-0 victory over Sparta Prague at the Etihad Stadium.

Erling Haaland bagged a brace, whilst John Stones, Phil Foden and Matheus Nunes also got their names on the scoresheet in a dominant display.

In league terms, we fell to defeat for the first time in 33 top-flight outings as Bournemouth secured a 2-1 victory at the Vitality Stadium.

As for Sporting, they also secured victory on matchday three with a routine 2-0 away win over SK Sturm Graz. Nuno Santos and Viktor Gyokeres got the goals on the night.

The Portuguese top-flight leaders were in league action last Friday, blowing away Estrela Amadora 5-1, with Gyokeres netting four times.
