Sporting CP 3-1 Estoril - Viktor Gyökeres at the Double in the Primeira Liga | OneFootball

Sporting CP snapped a run of three straight draws in the Primeira Liga after a 3-1 win against an in-form Estoril at Estádio José Alvalade.

The Lions went ahead in the 5th minute when Gonçalo Inácio headed Zeno Debast’s free kick past Joel Robles. Trincão went close on two occasions and Gyökeres tested Robles, but the Swedish striker wouldn’t be denied and doubled the advantage in the 36th minute.

Debast’s pass got past Pedro Álvaro which saw Gyökeres break clear, step inside Kévin Boma and Álvaro before firing the ball into the bottom corner.

Debast’ shot was deflected off the post after half-time but Estoril fought back and reduced the deficit in the 84th minute, substitute Gonçalo Costa squeezing the ball through Rui Costa's legs from a tight angle.

Sporting sealed the deal in added time when Gyökeres broke free once again and went around Robles, João Carvalho going to ground and handling the ball which saw a penalty awarded. Gyökeres smashed the ball into the top corner to send Rui Borges side three points clear of Benfica at the top of the table.

It was an important victory in more ways than one, particulary due to an injury crisis that saw midfielders Morten Hjulmand, Hidemasa Morita, Daniel Bragança, João Simões and Pedro Gonçalves all miss out. Eduardo Felicíssimo earned his first start for the senior side and José Silva came off the bench to make his debut.
