SPL title will go down to the wire between Rangers and ‘them’

Kilmarnock’s thumping by Celtic today served as a timely reminder to Rangers fans that for all the mockery we often make about the ‘overrated’ lot at Parkhead, they will be no pushovers and have slightly strengthened this summer, without making any major sales.

Initially they’d added just their loans to permanent, but they’ve followed that up with some new recruits and after Rangers could only score twice v Killie at home last week, Celtic go to Rugby Park on the dodgy surface and put away 5.

Ultimately we only need to take care of ourselves and let whatever be elsewhere, but we can assure you as much as the sky is blue, if Celtic have a bad result Rangers fans in their droves will be posting about it on Ibrox Noise and other Rangers channels. They always have.

Because it’s naïve and a bit sanctimonious to pretend no Rangers fan ever pays attention to Celtic’s results. We do, because it matters to us if they lose or draw.

And it also matters to an extent if they win because we know what kind of form they’re in.

After all, if we lose to Celtic, how many Rangers fans will undermine that loss by saying Celtic are rubbish? If we don’t pay any attention to their results, how exactly would we know how good or bad they were?

The point is, we do have to monitor it a bit, because they’re our closest rivals, and today’s result demonstrates this season could be one of the closest for a long time – the current comparison between both sides has Celtic top via marginal goal difference – two more goals scored is all they have.

56 is what it is all about this season, once, we hope, PSV are successfully dispatched, and our eastern rivals have every intention of making it 2IAR. We have every capacity to stop them, but no question the two sides, domestically, are incredibly evenly-matched this season.

May the best team in blue win.
