Spezia striker Rey Manaj was glad to be able to play at the San Siro once again when he returned with Spezia on Wednesday.

Speaking to SportMediaset after the match, the 24-year-old Albanian acknowledged that it felt special to return to face the club who he had played for in the past.

Manaj had been in Inter’s squad for a few seasons, where he made a handful of substitute appearances under Roberto Mancini in Serie A.

The Albanian eventually left in search of more opportunities to play as a starter, but he still feels a connection to his old club and especially to the San Siro.

Manaj also understands that the San Siro is a difficult stadium to get anything out of as an away team, and for this reason his disappointment at having lost to the Nerazzurri was tempered somewhat.

Of the save made by Samir Handanovic in the first half, Manaj stated that “We know that Handanovic is a great goalkeeper, he is capable of that.”

“We played a first half of great character,” he went on, “we know that at San Siro you have to play the match of your life to take away points.”

And on returning to the San Siro, he stated that “It always fills me with emotion to play at San Siro against my favourite team.”

“I hope that they can win the Scudetto and move forward in the Champions League,” he went on.
