Danny Rohl, who is speculated to replace Russell Martin at Southampton, has recently been spotted in Sheffield Wednesday training.

Southampton return to Premier League action this weekend against Fulham. While the Saints will hope to add one more win to the board to propel their fight to safety from relegation, they might have to do so without a permanent manager on the touchline.

As it stands, Simon Rusk, who took charge of Southampton for the recent EFL Cup match against Liverpool, could be on the touchline again this weekend. It all depends on what happens over the coming days.

In the last week, Danny Rohl was named as the likeliest man to replace Russell Martin at Southampton. Now, Saints fans have noticed something pretty interesting.

As pointed out in The Star, Sheffield Wednesday posted to their X (formerly Twitter) account pictures of the Owls in training. Leading the pack was Danny Rohl, who was pictured putting his players through their paces.

Of course, while this would be customary in usual circumstances, it does raise the eyebrows of anyone even remotely interested in Southampton. This is because they envision Danny Rohl as the imminent Southampton manager, based on some reports and speculation, so to see him still involved in the Owls might seem weird.

However, we mustn't be blindsided by reports. As it stands, Danny Rohl is still under contract at Sheffield Wednesday and this will be the case unless he is officially announced by Southampton.

We live in an age where we are told everything which appears to be true about a club behind the scenes. Those older football fans among us, though, will remember a time when official confirmation was our only source of news.

So, to keep a long story short, it is obvious that Danny Rohl will still be carrying out his duties at Sheffield Wednesday. Yes, he might be the favourite for the Southampton job but this doesn't automatically make him Southampton manager.

We will see what official confirmation comes out, hopefully in the coming days.
