Sjoerd Benjamin Kezier is reporting that Sparta Rotterdam are set to bring goalkeeper Filip Bednarek back to the Eredivisie. The 32-year-old goalkeeper has spent the last few seasons in Poland with Lech Poznan but is now returning to Dutch football. The goalkeeper will be able to sign as a free agent with his contract in Poland having expired at the end of the 2024/2025 campaign.
Bednarek has been with Lech Poznan since 2020, having left SC Heerenveen to sign for them on a free. He was a regular starter up until the 2023/2024 campaign, when he was replaced by the younger Bartosz Mrozek. Bednarek had helped the side win the Polish Ekstraklasa during the 2021/2022 campaign and was part of the squad that won it this past season.
Bednarek actually spent most of his career prior to Lech in the Dutch system. He spent time with De Graafschap, FC Twente and Utrecht. However, apart from at De Graafschap he was never first choice for any of the other sides. With Nick Olij having joined PSV this summer, Sparta Rotterdam are in need of a new first choice goalkeeper. It appears that Bednarek will be the man.
