The future of Eric Garcia has been in close focus as we slowly approach the January transfer window.

The former Manchester City defender is one of the top contenders to leave Barcelona as they look to shed some space from their wage budget.

Despite a promising start to the new season, Garcia has fallen out of favour under Hansi Flick, rarely featuring after coming back from injury.

This has led to intense speculation over his future and it looks like a January exit could be on the cards.

Girona interested in signing Garcia

According to Matteo Moretto, Girona so far have shown the most concrete interest in Eric Garcia, ahead of the January transfer window.

It appears the Catalan outfit are keen on re-signing the Barcelona defender, who enjoyed a successful loan stint at the club during the 2023/24 campaign.

Garcia, for his part, could consider a return to Girona as he looks to revive his career after yet another disappointing spell in Barcelona.

As mentioned earlier, the Spaniard has fallen out of favour under Flick, finding it difficult to secure regular game time.

Garcia’s importance at the club could dwindle further as Barcelona gear up for the return of Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen.

Araujo is already back in the team setup whereas Christensen is eyeing a return in January. The return of these two individuals could greatly impact Garcia’s prospects at Barça.

A mid-season switch to a club like Girona, therefore, could prove to be beneficial for all parties involved. However, it remains to be seen whether or not the Spanish outfit are in a position to sign the defender on a permanent deal.
