Barcelona cannot afford to meet Inter’s demands for Lautaro Martinez according to a report from Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo journalist Francesc Aguilar.
The Blaugrana club have been courting the highly rated 22-year-old Argentine national team player for some time and Aguilar states that everyday a new excuse is made but the truth is that they quite simply cannot afford to sign him at the moment.
Barcelona refused to pay Lautaro’s €111 million release clause prior to its expiration and have reportedly only wanted to do a deal on a player plus cash basis in order to reduce the amount of money they need to pay.
This season Lautaro, who has been with Inter since 2018 and under contract until 2023, has made 45 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scoed 19 goals and provided six assists for his teammates.
Aguilar took to social media platform Twitter to share the news and posted: “Barça are like the fox with the grapes in Aesop’s fable with Lautaro Martinez. As he has no money to sign the Inter striker he says they are ‘green’. Every day a new excuse arises when the truth is that today they cannot pay what Inter requires.”
