Lionel Messi is showing this 2022-23 campaign that his best days are far from behind him despite being 35-year-old. After a challenging first year at Paris Saint-Germain, he has bounced back.

The Argentine has scored seven goals while recording eight assists through 12 appearances in all competitions. Messi is in good form to help Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and PSG pursue a UEFA Champions League trophy.

Messi’s form draws rave reviews from Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, who spoke with French publication Le Parisien (h/t Paris Fans) to discuss what he has seen from the veteran forward.

“Of course, his adaptation to Parisian life explains a lot,” Balague said. “But when you give the keys to the truck to a player like him, who sees everything faster than the others, and the team plays better, it’s not psychological, it’s tactical.

“It’s a bit like what happened to the Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan when his coach Phil Jackson told him that he no longer needed to do everything, that to be better, you might have to do something different.”

Should Messi continue this form while adding a World Cup and Champions League trophy to cap off the 2022-23 football season, then the PSG star can expect to add another Ballon d’Or to his list of personal accomplishments.

It will be interesting to see if the number of games on the schedule will affect Messi and cause him to slow down, or perhaps the French giants have a plan to monitor his minutes.
