Barcelona offer final chance for Ousmane Dembele to renew his contract amidst Tottenham interest

According to the journalist Gerard Romero (h/t The Express), Barcelona have decided to make a final offer to Ousmane Dembele to renew his contract. A salary package of £9.5million is on the table in the negotiations that will take place this week between the club and Moussa Sissoko, the agent of the Frenchman.

The 24-year-old has had a tough time at Camp Nou with his constant injury issues, which has prevented him from making a mark for the Spanish club. He returned from an injury recently and has looked promising and often at times being the only threat for a weakened Barca side.

Ousmane Dembele to Tottenham in the making?

Dembele will see his current contract expire at the end of this season, meaning Spurs could get him on a free if he decides to accept our deal for the summer without putting pen to paper on a new deal. He could also reach a pre-contract agreement in January with Daniel Levy if he wants to join the North London club.

Right target?

There is no doubt about his quality, yet he is far from reaching his potential due to the injuries that stagnated his development. However, his history with the constant setbacks would be concerning, especially under Antonio Conte.

Bryan Gil is yet to show his quality, whereas Steven Bergwijn is being linked with a transfer to Ajax. Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura do not have many years left in the bag despite arguably being at their peak right now, and we would need a world-class player to replace them. The Blaugrana winger could be what we need, but the above concerns would play into whether we would sign him or not.

Those who have followed him at Stade Rennes and Borussia Dortmund would know that he had not suffered any such issues there. It began only after his move to Spain. But then there is the issue of whether he would suit Conte’s formation, a system with three centre-backs and attacking full-backs that he has used at Juventus, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and now at Spurs.

The France international has not fine-tuned his game in Spain, mainly due to fitness concerns. The Italian manager is known for his ability to get the best out of players, and should he repeat that with the forward, we could get ourselves one of the best players of the current generations if he decides to join us. But of course, for that, we need to actually sign him and it remains to be seen what happens with his negotiations at Barca.
