It will involve Buffon, Gravina and Spalletti. As reported by Il Corriere dello Sport on Tuesday on page 14, the CT has recently returned from a brief holiday on the island of Ponza.

The Rome-based paper also reports that Buffon has a new role. The ex-goalkeeper has been named Italy’s ‘sporting director’ and not only the first team’s delegation chief.

“We’ll try to find the best solutions to strengthen the technical aspect of our national teams. Buffon’s experience will be useful,” said Gravina.

“We’ll talk to Spalletti, hoping to recover some important players that we didn’t have at the Euros, and we hope we can start again with the enthusiasm we lacked in Germany.

“I can’t believe that was our level,” continued the FIGC President.

“We lacked something in terms of performances for different reasons. We didn’t seek self-absolution, it is still an open wound.”

Gravina, who is also the UEFA Vice president, has returned from Berlin, where he watched the Euro Final between Spain and England on Sunday night.

“It was not nice to go to Berlin and see Chiellini return the trophy we had conquered three years ago with great joy, but this is football. You fall down and stand up again. We need to work and program. We are all embittered. I share this feeling with the fans, the footballers and the coach who is the most disappointed.”

Gravina added that he still hasn’t decided whether he will be among the candidates for the FIGC Federal elections on November 4.
