Real Madrid announced the arrival of their new manager immediately before the World Cup, triggering panic in Spain. Ultimately, Lopetegui was sacked from his role with the national team on the eve of the tournament.

Now Celades – who was reportedly close to taking over in Russia during the summer – has joined Lopetegui at the Bernabéu. Celades ended up acting as Fernando Hierro’s assistant during the tournament.

A midfielder during his playing career, Celades spent five years as a Real Madrid player, making 101 appearances for the first team.
