Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu will almost certainly be the venue for the 2030 World Cup, which FIFA have decided will be hosted in Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina.
Morocco had been pushing for the final to be hosted in a custom-built 120,000-seater stadium, but Marca report that FIFA are not contemplating another host venue that isn’t the Bernabeu. There had ben some disagreements, due to the fact that FIFA generally require the ceding of the final venue for three months around the competition.
Los Blancos do not want to do so due to the money involved with hosting concerts and other events. The governing body are now in negotiations with Real Madrid over both the Bernabeu and the World Club Cup in 2025, as they do not feel they are getting enough money out of the competition.
From a wider perspective, Diario AS report that it will be confirmed shortly that Spain has 11 stadiums hosting games, Morocco has six, Portugal has three and three in South America: Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Asuncion. The government will sign a document presenting the cities that will host for Spain, and it will see Murcia and Gijon miss out on hosting duties, while Valencia and Vigo still have work to do to settle differences between the clubs and the city councils.
