Spain seal Euro 2024 spot after Norway win

Scorers: Gavi 49′

Spain booked their place at Euro 2024 courtesy of a narrow and controversy-laden win over Norway.

La Roja appeared to have taken an early lead through Álvaro Morata seizing on a defensive mistake by Stefan Strandberg but was flagged offside by VAR.

An opener finally arrived for Luis de la Fuente’s side, albeit after another lengthy VAR review, when Gavi swept home a loose ball in the hosts’ penalty area.

The three-time European champions’ result in Oslo also confirmed Scotland’s place as Group A runners-up heading to next summer’s finals in Germany.

Wilson inspires Wales into second

Scorers: Wilson 47′, 60′; Pašalić 75′

Wales moved into the final Group D qualification spot with a Harry Wilson-inspired win over Croatia.

Rob Page’s side were rewarded for their prolonged control of the first half with Wilson hooking a sublime opener just two minutes after the restart.

The Fulham winger doubled his tally inside 13 minutes with a deft backward header from Daniel James’ left-sided delivery to beat Dominik Livaković a second time.

But Mario Pašalić threatened to set up a potentially nervy finale by sending a flick-on past Danny Ward in the final 15 minutes at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Poland lose ground in Moldova draw

Scorers: Świderski 53′; Nicolaescu 26′

Poland’s Euro 2024 qualification hopes suffered a blow as they were held by Moldova.

Ion Nicolaescu gave the visitors a surprise lead midway through the first half by meeting Vadim Rață’s corner with a downward header.

But Karol Świderski restored parity on 53 minutes by shaking off Vladyslav Babohlo to convert Piotr Zieliński’s cross with a turn and shot.

The result saw Michał Probierz’s side drop down to third in Group E, behind second-placed Czech Republic by a point, having played a game more.

Turkey book their place with Latvia rout

Scorers: Akgün 57′, Tosun 83′, 90+2′, Aktürkoğlu 88′

Turkey clinched their place at Euro 2024 with a comprehensive four-goal dismantling of Latvia in Group D.

Yunus Akgün saw a potential 21st-minute opener ruled out by VAR after he had bundled the ball home from a goalmouth scramble.

The Leicester City winger’s eventual first goal proved worth the wait after teeing himself up for a volley inside the penalty area in the second half.

Cenk Tosun added a second in the closing stages with a diving header to meet Samet Akaydin’s in-swinging delivery from a recycled free kick.

Just five minutes later, Vincenzo Montella’s side were in cruise control as Yusuf Sarı’s surging run allowed Kerem Aktürkoğlu to sweep home.

Tosun doubled his tally in the second minute of added time by sliding the ball past Roberts Ozols from İsmail Yüksek’s cutback.

Souček to the rescue for Czechs against Faroes

Scorers: Souček (PEN) 75′

Tomáš Souček ensured the Czech Republic’s Group E qualifying campaign remained on track with a late win over the Faroe Islands.

The hosts struggled to make the most of their chances with Adam Hložek’s first-half bicycle kick that flew just off target constituting their best opening.

But Jaroslav Šilhavý’s side were handed a lifeline in the closing stages as a handball by Odmar Færø allowed Souček to convert from the penalty spot.

The Czechs moved back up to second in the group still with a game in-hand over their closest challengers Poland.
