Drama in Braga as Morata sinks Portugal

Scorers: Morata 88′

Spain are through to the finals after Álvaro Morata scored a dramatic late winner to break Portugal’s hearts in Braga.

The closest either side went to scoring in the first half was a long range effort from Portugal’s Bruno Fernandes which rustled the side netting.

Cristiano Ronaldo then had a great chance to open the scoring when he was slipped in on goal by Diogo Jota just moments into the second half, but goalkeeper Unai Simón came to Spain’s rescue with a good save.

Spain went in search of the goal they needed to qualify for the finals and in the 77th-minute, Morata forced Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa into a decent save with a left-footed strike from range.

And when it looked like all hope was lost, Spain did score a dramatic late goal, when Morata finished substitute Nico Williams’s knockdown from close range, sparking wild celebrations on the bench.

Almost immediately Ronaldo had a chance to equalise for Portugal at the other end, but Simón was again equal to it.

Scotland keep their nerve to earn League A promotion

Scotland got the point they needed to earn promotion to League A after a tense encounter with Ukraine in Krakow.

The visitors thought they’d been awarded a penalty in the 24th minute for a handball from Ukraine’s Artem Dovbyk but after a VAR check, the decision was overturned as the ball had already gone out of play for a corner.

Ireland win hot tempered thriller in Dublin

Scorers: Egan 18′, Obafemi 52′, Brady (pen) 90+1′; Dashyan 71′, Spertsyan 73′

Ireland will remain in League C after a late Robbie Brady penalty gave them victory over an Armenia side who fought back from 2-0 and had two men sent off in the dying minutes.

The hosts took the lead in Dublin midway through the first half, when John Egan powered home a header from Brady’s corner.

Seven minutes into the second half Ireland doubled their advantage, when Michael Obafemi found the net with a super strike from outside the box.

But Stephen Kenny’s side were then rocked by two goals in two minutes from Artak Dashyan and Eduard Spertsyan as Armenia pulled it back to 2-2.

There was to be another twist, however, when Ireland were awarded a late penalty for a Dashyan handball. Before it could be taken, Armenia were reduced to nine men when both Dashyan and Hovhannes Hambardzumyan were sent off for protesting the decision.

Brady kept his cool and converted from the spot for 3-2.

Mitrović on target as Serbia earn promotion

Scorers: Vlahović 42′, Mitrović 52′

Aleksandar Mitrović netted his 50th goal for Serbia as they overcame Norway to seal promotion to League A.

The visitors broke the deadlock three minutes before half-time in Oslo, when Dušan Vlahović converted Flip Kostić’s cut-back.

Serbia’s night then got even better early in the second half when Aleksandar Mitrović put them 2-0 up, finishing at the end of a devastating counter-attack.
