League A: Group 2

Dalot leads Portugal to top spot

Scorers: Dalot 33′, 52′, Fernandes 45+2′, Jota 82′.

Portugal moved above Spain into top spot going into the final matchday after a comprehensive win in Prague.

Manchester United Diogo Dalot scored his first international goals to help his team pick up all three points, his first coming via Rafael Leão’s cut-back from the byline which he poked home from inside the six-yard box.

His club teammate Bruno Fernandes made it two in first-half stoppage time, tapping in from inside the six-yard box after being found by Mário Rui.

Dalot drilled into the bottom corner from 25 yards out with a left-footed strike to make it three at the start of the second period before Diogo Jota came off the bench to round off the victory in the closing stages.

Portugal meet Spain on Tuesday to decide who will make it through to the Nations League finals.

Spain stumble at home to Switzerland

Scorers: Alba 55′; Akanji 21′, Embolo 58′.

Spain will go into that meeting needing a win after falling into second space after a surprise defeat to Switzerland in Zaragoza.

Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji rose highest to head the visitors ahead from Ruben Vargas’ corner.

Luis Enrique’s men struggled to break down their opponents but managed to pull themselves level when Jordi Alba popped up at the back post to smash a shot into the top corner after being played in by Marco Asensio after a well-worked team move.

But La Roja weren’t level for long with Breel Embolo putting his team back in front minutes later, turning in Akanji’s flick-on from another corner.

It’s only the second time Spain have suffered defeat to the Swiss, with the first coming in the 2010 World Cup group stage.

League B: Group 1

Scotland v Ireland

Scorers: Hendry 48′, Christie (PEN) 82′; Egan 18′.

Scotland came from behind to beat Ireland and put themselves in the driving seat for promotion to League A.

Ireland stormed ahead in the 18th minute, with John Egan turning and hitting the ball past Craig Gordon on the half-volley after Scotland had failed to clear a corner.

But Jack Hendry pulled the hosts level just after half-time, heading Ryan Christie’s chipped cross into the far corner off the post.

Ireland should’ve restored their lead moments later when Troy Parrott found himself one-on-one with Gordon after a counter-attack but his tame shot was saved by the goalkeeper.

The hosts were then awarded a penalty when Alan Browne handled in the box, with Christie stepping up to dispatch from 12 yards to send Hampden Park into theatrics.

Steve Clarke’s team move above Ukraine with a two-point advantage ahead of their meeting on the final matchday.
