Spain now face Euro 2024 hosts Germany in the quarter-finals in a mouth-watering clash to kick-off the quarter-finals.

Group B contained Spain, holders Italy, Croatia and Albania and looked on paper at least to be one of the toughest groups at the competition. La Roja however eased to three wins without conceding a goal to top the group and make some of the other big-hitters at Euro 2024 sit up and take notice.

Spain earned themselves a fairly easy draw in the round of 16 against Georgia, and after a shocking own goal handed Georgia the lead, Spain just applied constant pressure until they broke through. Eventually they progressed 4-1 to set up the massive final eight clash.

Group B – Matchweek One

Spain kicked off their Group B campaign in style, racing into a three goal lead against Croatia before the half-time break in Berlin. Alvaro Morata, Fabian Ruiz and Dani Carvajal ensured the points were heading la Roja’s way despite a spirited attempt to get back into the game from Vatreni in the second half.

Group B – Matchweek Two

Spain may have needed a Ricardo Calafiori own goal to beat Italy on Matchday Two but the reality is that they should have won this game much more comfortably. La Roja dominated possession and took 20 shots to Italy’s four and it was clear to see that which of these two European powerhouses will be the biggest threat in the latter stages of the tournament from this clash in Gelsenkirchen.

Group B – Matchweek Three

A very heavily rotated Spain outfit were still able to get the job done on Matchday Three against Albania, winning 1-0 to ensure they were the only team to get through the group stages without dropping a point or conceding a goal at Euro 2024. Ferran Torres’ early goal was enough to separate the two teams.

Round of 16

Spain came back strongly from an own goal to smash Georgia in their round of 16 clash. Goals from Rodri just before half-time, then Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams, and substitute Dani Olmo, saw off Georgia with great comfort.

Quarter-finals

Up next for Spain is a meeting with fellow European powerhouses Germany. This, of course, is a repeat of the Euro 2008 final in which Fernando Torres scored to deliver Spain’s first ever major international tournament victory and kicked off their run of dominance on the world stage.

The overall head to head is exceptionally level with nine wins for Germany, nine draws, and eight Spanish victories. Recent meetings have generally been tight, three draws in the last four played, except for one, a 6-0 victory to Spain. This victory was achieved under Luis Enrique and against Joachim Low, and only six players from that match are likely starters in this encounter, but there could be some mental benefit for Spain from this result.
