The draw for the European qualifying groups for the 2026 FIFA World Cup took place today, meaning that every European nation now knows what they have to do to be present at the tournament which will be held across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Spain still has to play the Netherlands in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Nations League, and the outcome of this match will change La Roja’s placement in World Cup Qualifying.
As per the National Team’s social media, should Spain beat the Netherlands, they will be placed into Group E, and will face Turkey, Georgia and Bulgaria.
Should they fail to beat the Netherlands, they will be placed in Group G, where they will take on Poland, Finland, Lithuania and Malta.
Neither of these two routes seem to be much more difficult than the other, and some fans have even pointed out that Group G almost seems more favourable should they lose.
Everything now rests on March’s Nations League clash, after which we will have a far clearer view of what Luis de la Fuente’s men have to do to book their ticket to the World Cup.
