Spain end Georgia's EURO dream

Scorers: Rodri 39', Ruiz 51', Williams 75', Olmo 83': Le Normand 18' (OG)

Spain came from a goal down to thrash Georgia 4-1 and set up a quarter final tie against hosts Germany, with wingers Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams starring once more.

After spending the early part of the game camped in the Georgian half, La Rioja fell behind in shock fashion when Robin le Normand turned a cross into his own net.

But though Georgia offered plenty of threat on the counter attack, Spain found their way back onto level terms courtesy of Rodri, who fired home from just outside the penalty area.

Five minutes after half time, their dominance was rewarded as Yamal floated in a delicious cross for Fabian Ruiz to head home, before an own goal was ruled out for offside after more fine work from the teenage Spaniard.

Despite that, Nico Williams sealed the result 15 minutes from full time with a ruthless finish after a rapid counter attack, while substitute Dani Olmo added gloss to the result with an excellent low finish with seven minutes to go.

It marked the end of Georgia's impressive tournament, and underlined Spain's serious tournament credentials.

England rally to break Slovakian hearts

Scorers: Bellingham 90+5', Kane 91'; Scranz 25'

England left it dangerously late against Slovakia as they rallied for a 2-1 win after extra-time to reach the EURO 2024 quarter-finals.

Gareth Southgate's men were dreary throughout 90 minutes, notably registering over 700 passes but not a single shot as Harry Kane, Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, and the like failed to impress.

Slovakia, meanwhile, were vigilant from the first whistle and their pressure eventually cracked the Three Lions. Ivan Scranz waltzed into the box and remained composed enough to poke home his third goal of the tournament. He is now tied at the top for the Golden Boot.

Southgate neglected to change his lineup coming into the second half. However, whatever he said must have rallied his side. Phil Foden thought he equalised until VAR ruled him offside before Declan Rice saw an effort hit off the post.

In between those attempts, Slovakia almost scored the goal of the tournament when David Strelec's attempt from the centre circle left goalkeeper Jordan Pickford scrambling.

Then, in the dying seconds, the Three Lions finally registered their first effort on target. Bellingham found space in the box and scored a delicious bicycle kick to send the match into extra-time.

With their energy surging, Kane was the next to deliver as his header turned things 2-1 less than a minute after the restart. The late turnaround was enough for Southgate's men to scrape by and avoid an utter disaster as Slovakia's hearts were shattered.
