Spain coach Luis Enrique admits he rested Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos for their World Cup qualifying win in Georgia.

The absence of Ramos from Spain's hard fought 2-1 victory on Sunday was not due to injury.

After the match, coach Luis Enrique admitted that it was his decision and he sticks by it.

"Sergio is in perfect condition and [his absence] was a technical decision," Luis Enrique explained in the press room after the match.

"I know that whatever I do is going to generate controversy, [whether Ramos played] five [minutes], ninety minutes or none.

"I'm used to it now, nothing surprises me. I'm ready for the debate," he said.
